MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION: infarction of the myocardium that results typically from coronary occlusion (blockage). MYOCARDIUM: the middle muscular layer of the heart wall. INFARCT: an area of necrosis in a tissue or organ resulting from obstruction of the local circulation by a thrombus or embolus. THROMBUS: clot of blood formed within a blood vessel and remaining attached to its place of origin. EMBOLUS: an ambormal particle (as an air bubble) circulating in the blood. NECROSIS: death of living tissue.
