MEASLES: An acute contagious disease that is caused by a morbillivirus, that commences with catahhral symptoms, conjunctivitis, cough, and Koplik's spots on the oral mucous membrane, and that is marked by the appearance on the 3rd or 4th day of an eruption of distinct red circular spots which coalesce in a crescentic form, are slightly raised, and after the 4th day of the eruption gradually decline -- called also rubeola. GERMAN MEASLES: an acute contagious virus disease that is milder than typical measles but is damaging to the fetus when occurring early in pregnancy -- called also rubella.
